a) i don't advise directly logging into root.
if you want to enable it anyways, edit sshd_config to match your
choice, and restart sshd.
b) in order to be able to su to root, a user has to be on the group named
"wheel".
edit /etc/group and add the username to the group "wheel". use should
then be able to su to root.
