Hello Brent,
Thank you for your tip with regarding to Pam. On XTR, pam is already
pre-installed. Below are the steps I took in order to have ssh working
correctly, I hope my mistakes will help those who might be in the same
situation:
1. openssl-0.9.6.tar.gz from openssl.org
./configure
make
make install
2. openssh-2.5.2p2.tar.gz from openssh.com
./configure --with-pam
make
make install
cp contrib/sshd.pam.generic /etc/pam.d/sshd
place /usr/local/sbin/sshd into /etc/rc.d/rc.local so ssh would
automatically start on systems reboot.
As root, type /usr/local/sbin/sshd to start the daemon w/o
having to reboot the machine.
SSH is good for security reasons including telnet/secured ftp.
Regards,
KN
