Does this not show another problem with the Cobalt.

No.

You have to do --nodeps to get 2.5.2p2-1 to install on a RaQ3 due to the
RPM binary being of an old version and this version requires at least rpm
version of 3.0.5 and at this point RH have even updated rpm to 4 due to
security and other reasons. I mean really.

The latest 3.x.x version of rpm is the latest version for some systems. RedHat has issued RPM-4 for RH-7, and is working to make it compatible with everything. Eventually it will be; however, at this point it is *not* totally compatible, and there have been a large number of reported problems.

Users of systems not based on RH7 (Guinness) or later should *not*, in my opinion, upgrade to rpm4 at this time. Would you care to be more specific as to why you think it's so critically bad for Cobalt not to upgrade to rpm4 at this time? "Security and other reasons" is a little broad, don't you think?

I don't always agree with Cobalt, but I'm quite happy that they haven't tried an upgrade to -4 yet, especially since it would require upgrading a lot of other things too.
