What I do is a little different. Rather than changing the default
Cobalt page (either way back in the system or after it's put the page
into the client's directory) and having to go through all of that
junk; I just made my own default page and dropped it into my 'admin'
directory. When the new site is made, I just go in through shell and
copy the page into the new site as index.htm. Set the permissions,
delete the default index.html and all is good.
The page I drop in is one of those "coming soon" type of pages, you
know... "we're not finished moving in yet blah blah blah, check back
later" and it looks like my main hosting site, with a nice little
advertising block down at the bottom for my hosting service. Why
should I advertise Cobalt when I've got an entire page to advertise my
own stuff?
I just started doing that before I closed down the hosting site for
(seemingly unending) changes; so there's only one or two sites on the
server that have that page. But it's going to be standard issue once I
get done - if I ever get done. ;)
As for the links that are on the default page, I don't include those
in the template page I drop in. I consider having those links there
(for anyone to see) a serious breach in security. I include that info
in the client's welcome letter they get in the email. Why in the world
would I want someone coming to my site before it's ready to know that
if they go to /siteadmin they can start pounding away with guessed
usernames and passwords? No need telling them where the door is so
they can try to stick their foot into it.
(Know what ah mean, Vern?)
