I hate to say this but since we all have no choice as to what comes in our in boxes from this mailing list, wouldn't it be better to just answer the question and have two messages as a result of the user's request.. His question and the response to it.

I asked this same question a few days ago, got a couple of very good answers and one nastygram that turned into several... All of which then go to everyone on the list.

Which is better? To have a question, regardless of how *dumb* it may be and a good answer or three to it, or. Have a question asked and then have a bunch of "cute" answers to it that contribute nothing and still fill everyone's email bin's with messages?

Maybe the user who asked the question just signed up to the list, maybe the messages from a few days ago are not yet in the archives.. maybe, as was in my case, the user did not find anything in the archives or on google that was stated in simple enough terms for him/her to understand?

Please... don't start another batch of "cute" responses to this plea for constructive messages in my email bin.. I'd rather read someone's answer who knows how to answer the question than a series of comments that teach me nothing, other than EVERY forum and newsgroup and mailing list I've ever been on has the same amount of people who would rather throw rocks than help...

Mailing lists and the like are for learning.. can we all agree to teach those of us who need to know?

Maybe someday we too will be able to answer questions in plain, simple, easy to understand ways so those who are beginners will also know what we have learned.

I will not respond to any replies to this message on list.. It will only further clog the system. If you wish to flame me, do it off list and I'd be glad to respond.
