RE: [cobalt-users] Clarification on SSH access

-----Original Message-----

Can a enlighten one can respond...

I'm a little bit confuse with the SSH access to the Raq.

First I install the folowing pkq:

OpenSSH Client Release 2.1.1p2
OpenSSH Server Release 2.1.1p2

Second I do to the GUI , control panel and un check Telnet Server (disable
it )

then with a SSH Client let say PuTTY I access my server (on Port 23) with
admin user id / pw

Are this steeps correct ???

I done that but.... unless "Telnet is enable on the Control Panel... is a
NO GO...

I was under the impression that the idea of installing SSH was to disable
the Telnet, if this is not the case, then why bother ???

TIA

Carlos

SSH is not meant to disable telnet, only make it secure by using your
already
existing SSL to encrypt your telnet sessions. Your users will also need SSH
enabled telnet clients. The recommended way to set it up, is you move your
key
programs to another location. Then SSH will install itself in the old
locations
under the same filenames. That way any requests for those services are
handled
transparently. The SSH module encrypts your authorization process then hands
off to the actual programs that you moved to the new location. Hope this
helps.
