You may be throwing the baby out with the bathwater there. :) You'll get
that truncating referrer message once a day whenever Webalizer runs. (You're
right...this is a Webalizer message) but it doesn't mean that there's
anything wrong with either Webalizer or your system. It just means someone
got sent to your site and had an extra long URL as the referring URL or
something that Webalizer couldn't handle. For instance, something like
http://www.somesite.com/cgi-bin/?Article=45235324325243543543543543543543543
5345435 might cause this oversized field error and webalizer records that it
couldn't correctly catalog it. But, in my experience, this has never
stopped webalizer from working, or bothered my web server. I have come to
use this message to let me know that my cron.daily stuff ran and that
webalizer's been updated. :)

There's probably a way to turn off the oversized request field message,
rather than tossing out Webalizer wholesale....

I hope this helps!

Raq newbie who also freaked out when she got her first webalizer email full
of oversized referrer fields... :)
