Re: [cobalt-users] Enough is enough...

Dan, that's the assumption I made, in that "The Cobalt server is sold as an
appliance for those that know or need to know nothing about Linux".

It was always the preferred option compared to co-locating our own server. A
lot of effort was spent marketing and selling the idea to me, but when I
took over the box it was a case of "here's the box, ALL over to you now".

No one told me about the updates or the security risks. It's only until now,
after a hack, that I find out what I should have been doing in the 1st
place - it's completely opened my eyes! No time or effort was made to give
important advice on the basics like "you should be using SSH" and "check the
cobalt site regularly" etc etc It's OK for those with a Linux background but
for people like me, sold on the "easy to use" and "low maintainance" idea,
it's easy to think one can leave the Raq as is. And I would suspect there
are a lot of people like me who are in for a nasty shock...and to top it all
I'm being charged for it...hmph! Oh, and I was referred to the contract I
signes which says that I agree to maintain, check for viruses etc - just no
indication of how.

Anyway, I think they've now prompted their sales team to encourage new raq
owners to at least visit the Cobal site for updates.

Dan
