Yes.

Yes.

I assume you're following something like the instructions on
http://www.volano.com/guide20/linux.html.

Remember that the method for changing the descriptors is different if
you're on the 2.0.x kernel versus any higher kernel. With those 2.1.x
and above, you can change the number of file descriptors without
rebuilding the kernel, otherwise you'll have to rebuild (as I did on my
RaQ).

Also, I assume that you have the kernel RPMS from Cobalt available from
ftp://ftp.cobaltnet.com/pub/products/RaQ/RPMS/ (or whichever appliance
you have).

So, to summarize, make sure of your kernel versions, first, then
download the RPMS if you need to rebuild (which most likely you do, from
what you've described), make sure you get the RPMS. Finally, one "tip"
if you've never heard it, is to make sure you've got a copy of your
working kernel in /usr/games/.doug. Yes, there's a . in front of that.
That's the "magic place" where RaQs boot from if you hold down the four
arrow keys on the frontpanel during the power-up sequence. Kind of like
genvmlinux under "big iron". This is your "failsafe" kernel if you mess
up your build.

Anyway, hope that helps some.
