I guess the obvious question would be, do you see any evidence they
actually connected in the logs? if not then it's not your fault -)
SMTP blocking is very common, haven't seen pop blocked much tho...
I'm assuming they aren't using AOL for net access here...more worms
The same customer can hit your web server at the same time this happens?

I've also had truely strange problems with some customers using cable
modems that run NAT into translated local IP addresses on the customers
endpoint (eg customer has an ip like 10.0.123.1) For some reason certain
types of transfers seem to vanish, i have 2 customers using this type of
thing and have something like a 50% failure rate on pop connections ...
(along with lots of timeouts, something that doesn't impress me much ;)
