Below is a copy of some notes I made when I was installing php with gd
support.  All these compile quite cleanly on a raq3, except perhaps for
freetype which by default includes options which require X11 libraries.  By
reading the README, INSTALL and Makefile though it should be easy to see
what needs commenting out.  As a rule of thumb I'd only ever use an rpm as a
last resort (very, very, very last), their almost certain to not contain the
options you require especially on a raq which doesn't have a lot of
libraries other redhat distributions do.

PNG (http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/libpng.html)
  Install: Compile
  Requires:
    Zlib (http://www.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/zlib/)
      Install: Just unpack next to libpng, already installed
    Freetype 1.x (http://www.freetype.org/download.html#freetype1)
      Install: Compile
      Note: Edit the makefile, don?t compile test apps RAQ has no X11
    JPEG (ftp://ftp.uu.net/graphics/jpeg/)
      Install: Compile
      Note: Specify ?enable-shared ?enable-static

I am desperately trying to install ImageMagick on my RaQ4i. All is fine
except that I am not having any luck at all with installing the required
JPEG, GIF and PNG libraries. I've follow all the instructions to the letter
and am still having problems. I've done this many times on standard RedHat
machines and it worked fine.

Has anybody else managed to install these libraries on a RaQ4i before? I'm
