Sure, but you might need to continue to run the kernel that comes with
your RaQ, to ensure hardware support and compatibility. If you want to
be brave, though, go ahead and try it, and let us know how you do.
How do you plan on loading it, since you don't have a cdrom built in?
I'd suggest a network install, but you can't use floppies for that, so
you'll have to somehow jump to some code to load CD images.
For more specific advice, you should be asking on the cobalt-developers
