Seems like a reasonable thing to do, but I have never trusted the built-in
backup capability. The ONLY backup tool I trust is Dantz Retrospect Backup.
I have been using Retrospect for a long time with Macs and Windows PCs and
recently with Qubes, but it has only been able to backup samba and netatalk
shares. Dantz are working on a Linux client, but since it is x86 based I
have not been able to try it until the Qube3 was released.
Today I installed the Retrospect Linux client on an operational Qube3 and
did a full backup. I then took a fresh Qube3, installed all the patches
available via BlueLinQ, installed the Retrospect Linux client and did a full
restore from the backup of the first Qube3. I did it in 3 passes, /, /home,
and /var followed by a reboot.
I now have two identical Qube3s. IMHO disaster recovery with the aid of
Dantz Retrospect Backup is possible.
Here is the Retrospect Log for the exercise ...

The host vfm-online.tdasys.com.au is actually a development RaQ4 and I'll be
running some more tests on it, but for the moment I'm pretty happy that it
works for a Qube3.
Please note that Retrospect 5.2-a1 and the Linux client are still in beta
test, so they are not readily available. However if you ask the right
person, you might be granted access to the download site.
