Actually, I misspoke, its pop not smtp that is not starting. Not sure if
in this instance pop is starting by inetd. Interliant no says they think
this problem is realted to something they are trying to fix on their
network.
doesn't really sound plausible to me; what do you think?

Yup, I've made the rounds of the obvious ith no luck

I was concerned about this possibility too. I disable telnet by default,
ftp too and only enable them as needed. Hopefully, this reduces my risk
somewhat.
