The RaQs use a pretty straightforward implementation of Red Hat Linux,
different versions for different RaQs. However, they're not necessarily
using all the same softwre; for example the standard FTP daemon that
comes with Red Hat is wu_ftpd, while the RaQ uses proftpd (which I use
as well).

Real differences are often the result of how the gui implements things.
For example, on RaQs "@domain.com" catches all email, even if you've got
users aliased for the domain. That's because of how the RaQ implements
email, not because of anything special anywhere. I figured it out by
completely reading /etc/virtusertable (and of course by knowing how it
works). On the RaQ "@www.domain.com" (or more definitively,
"@hostname.domain.com", where hostname is whatever you put into the
"host" box when you set up the domain) works as a proper catchall for
users who don't already exist. If you entered that into
/etc/virtusertable on a 'standard' linux or unix box running sendmail,
it would ignore it. But the problem is the way the RaQ implements
receiving mail; nothing different in the config files, in sendmail, in
linux.

Believe me, there's no replacing almost 20 years of unix experience
<smile>.

I don't think there are enough RaQs out there to warrant an aftermarket
book. I could be wrong, though.
