Re: [cobalt-users] another RAQ backup problem

This limitation is not restricted to the RaQ series ... the Qubes suffer the
same problem.

I dumped the built-in backup capability almost immediately, but since I'm
currently only doing Qubes I was able to use Retrospect and backup the SMB
or Appleshare shares easily by just mounting the volumes.

To the best of my knowledge the RaQ doesn't have netatalk or samba
installed, so my solution to the problem is not immediately applicable.
However there is light at the end of the tunnel ... Dantz are doing a Linux
(x86) client for Retrospect but unlike Legato, the Backup Server is not
horrendously expensive.

The downside is that the Linux components are still in beta testing, but
worth a look.

I don't feel comfortable posting the details of the download site, but I can
give you a contact;

The download site also has a downloadable version of Retrospect 5.2-b1 to
use with the Linux client so you don't need to purchase the product to try
it. You will however need an evaluation key (good for 30 days), but one is
included in the read_me.

Cheers,  Malcolm
