Pradeep,
First, I normally put MRTG on a box *separate* from the one I'm
monitoring for a number of reasons, including the induced load of
running those scripts.
Below is an email I privately shared, but am now sending to the list in
general, of a sample config file. I don't know why cfgmaker isn't
working for you, but you may want to debug *that* before attempting MRTG
simply because if that part doesn't work on your machine, I've got my
doubts about anything else.
PS:
Actually, the name is "JT", "Arf" is simply a greeting.

Here's an example of the configuration file I use for a cobalt box. If I
were you, I'd use "cfgmaker" to get this for me. That will probe
everything that the Cobalt box has for SNMP. Like this:
cfgmaker 'public@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'
Which produces something like the following (though you always have to add
the IconDir and WorkDir directives):
IconDir: /usr2/apache_1.3b3/htdocs/mrtg/icons
WorkDir: /usr2/apache_1.3b3/htdocs/mrtg
