hi pierre,

while i can't purport to be the final word, i do not believe that a
catchall will work on a qube2. i can say for certain that nothing i
have tried works. i have tried a variety of addresses added directly to
the aliases file (/etc/aliases) in telnet not through the gui,
including: "@host.domain.com", "@domain.com", and "@ip.address". i add
the catchall to the end of the aliases file (using the syntax:
"@host.domain.com: admin") but newaliases (/usr/bin/newaliases, which
must be run after editing the aliases file) chokes and issues the
following warnings:

/etc/aliases: line 123: @catchall.address... User address required
/etc/aliases: line 123: @catchall.address... cannot alias non-local
names

we have our qube configured to accept email from 3 different domains,
and it works like a charm. the setup has 2 parts as follows:

(1) in the gui for the qube, under "control panel/services/email
server/parameters/advanced email settings" there is a box labeled
"Receive email addressed to these hosts/domains". here we entered each
of our 3 domains (only 1 per line) in a variety of manners (just to be
sure we covered everything): qube.domain1.com, domain1.com,
qube.domain2.com, domain2.com, qube.domain3.com, domain3.com.

(2) in our dns (which, fwiw, is not hosted by our qube) we created an
"a" record for qube.domain1.com that points to the ip of our qube. we
then added "mx" records to the dns for each of the 3 domains to point to
qube.domain1.com.

and voila - any email addressed to user@xxxxxxxxxxx, user@xxxxxxxxxxx,
or user@xxxxxxxxxxx is received in the "user" account. it is important
to remember that you need to properly set up both the gui configuration
and all of the relevant dns entries for the system to work right (i.e.,
the mx records must in the dns of each domain for the email to even
reach the qube, and the domains must be entered in the gui so that once
the email reaches the qube it is accepted).

i hope that makes some sort of sense, and approximates the answer you
were looking for. and with any luck, someone else will tell us how to
properly configure a catchall account.

mikey.
