Re: [cobalt-users] Re: shopping cart prg

Mike,

We run Miva Merchant and after a year of some serious Miva script
modifications and about 9,000 products, I think the Miva engine still has
some major issues to overcome.

I would not recommend anyone to run it on a Cobalt Raq box unless it's the
new XTR box. The Raq3 box we have just could not run Miva at the speed we
needed. We ended up purchasing an HP server Dual PIII, w/ 1 Gig Ram and
Ultra SCSI to do the job.

Miva is great but because the Miva Empresa engine which parses miva script
code into HTML requires lots of CPU power and RAM, you need a very fast box
or otherwise your customers will not be very happy waiting for pages to
load. There is a roamer that miva is working on a complier which should make
the engine run much faster.

If your site is very small, then I don't think you should worry about it
much. We get over 70,000 hits per day and even with two servers, we find
that we need the fastest CPUs around to keep up.

Hope this helps!

We were looking into Miva. Is anyone using Miva? If so can you tell us how
it compares to other shopping carts.
