I have not installed any updates on a particular machine, but it is
displaying the symptoms you describe.

After exhausting all other reasonable causes by swapping EVERYTHING except
the users data I'm now fairly sure that its the users data which is the
problem (i.e. after migrated everything to a fresh machine it immediately
displayed the same problem).

In particular I feel it is related to IMAP. The users keep their inboxes
fairly tidy although some hadn't enabled the purge feature in their client
(OutLook 2000) so all deleted mail was still there. Also they had not
disabled the default "look in ALL IMAP folders for newmail" feature so
OutLook 2000 was polling all the users mail folders and not just the inbox
... HUGE load on the Microserver.

Fixing these settings didn't fix the problem completely, so investigations
are now focused on finding which folder actually causes the hang. The users
receive quite a bit of mail with large attachments and simply file them in
an IMAP folder instead of detaching the attachment, filing it in the
filesystem and deleting the original message.

In parallel I'm going to migrate their config to a Qube3 to see if it
suffers the same complaint.

This is getting more than annoying ... I could accept IMAP dying ... at
least I'd have a better idea on what I needed to fix, but it is completely
unacceptable for the box to simply hang.

Unfortunately I have other Qube2s which work much harder and are not
suffering this problem.

Cheers, Malcolm
