I have now run into something rather strange....
I am hosting several virtual domains on one ip. For illustration, I will use
xyz.com and abc.com.
They both have the same mx records:
A record - xyz.com -> 64.70.123.456
A record - www.xyz.com -> 64.70.123.456
PTR - 64.70.123.456/24 -> xyz.com
and MX - xyz.com mail is sent to the High priority mail server www.xyz.com
the abc domain is set up similarly.
For the first domain, I have the POP3 server setup as xyz.com. Mail works
fine. However, the abc.com domain's email doesn't work without having a
www.abc.com as the POP3 server. Without the www. the mail program cannot
find the host name.
Both of them are setup the same, yet one requires the www and one doesn't.
None of my other sites on this server require the www. either. Wierd. I
tried deleting and redoing the DNS entries, as well as rebooting the
server... No help. My last resort is to kill/redo site.
Any ideas what's up?
Thanks.
Rick
