Hi I have have great luck with dialtone internet and their IP automation
system. It's alot faster and better than any other I have seen.
Just because you can't ping the IP does not mean it's bad. The problem is
that a company with great connections and many hosted servers (Dialtone
internet has just over 16,000 servers hosted there) ip ranges get attacked.
They therefore dissable pinging to the ip's to stop attacks and sometimes if
it's bad, they will call bell or whoever provides their lines and have the
whole c class routed to null 0 for a while till it clears.
Also, just because they assign you ip's does not mean it will automatically
work. You must goto your linux box and get the ip's in there to the ethernet
card.
While Dialtone internet does charge alot it's not their fault that this
happens.
