ok, first, make sure AllowOverride inclused 'FileInfo' in srm.conf ...

protecting your errordocuments ;0

last but not least, the apache docs warn about redirecting to a full
domain name ...i'm assuming the target of your page is the same domain
name that the error was from, if not all your error codes get remapped to
a redirect...

does it work of you just use ErrorDocument 404 "The page is not here"
?
