Plesk is expensive? Yeah, compared to a BigMac I guess it is! ;)
It's only like $649 for the unlimited domain version.. you can get it, the
upgrade contract for a yr, and their highest level of support for about
$1100 total.
Then you have to get your hardware. You can get a 1 unit p3-800, 40gig hd,
512 megs of ram, etc, for about $1900, so you're looking about 3k all
together.
So, for a little less than a comparably spec'd cobalt (disk, mem) you've got
a system 4-5 times more powerful than the most powerful cobalt sold.
I'm partial I guess, as I stopped using/buying cobalts, and only monitor the
mailing list because I have co-location customers who use them.
Cobalts have their problems, Plesk has it's problems, there is no %100
perfect package I've seen, all have to be worked around. You just have to
get used to the product you are going to use, and then go far it.
As long as everyone else is posting hosting prices..
www.rapidhosts.com co-location fee for a cobalt is $350 per month (US$), and
includes all power, space, ethernet hookup, etc, as well as 16 IPs, and 150
Gigs of transfers per month. Additional transfers are billed at $4.25 per
gig.

You are correct, PLESK is an excellent program.. The problem however is
by the time you buy PLESK, and then build your own inexpensive PC, you
still end up paying a pretty hefty price.. Hardware is a no brainer and
relatively cheap to come by now-a-days, however, Plesk is very expensive.
It would be nice if you could purchase the RaQ GUI for install on your
own PC's, etc. I really do not think it would adversly affect the sale
of the RaQ itself, as the form factor is still very attactive. I think
Cobalt would stand to make even more by selling both the hardware and the
software. A Mac version of the RaQ OS would great addition as well.
