Ok, let's go and compare Apples to Oranges... In an earlier post you
said you "can lease a Cobalt RaQ4i with 128 Mb Ram as 180 USD/Month !"
If you were referring to the link above? I do not know for certain if
this is where you were talking about, but we will use it anyway.
A RaQ4 at <http://www.dedicated-servers.co.uk/raq4.html> is priced as
follows:
5GB 99 pounds/mo. (no setup)
10GB 149 pounds/mo. (250 pounds setup)
15GB 199 pounds/mo. (250 pounds setup)
I do not even see a listing for pricing for 40GB/mo. (which is what 128k
equates to) I do however see that excess BW is 2p per 1MB of data
transferred... If my math is correct, this equates to about 20.48 or
roughly 20 pounds per GB per month. So, in order to get your RaQ 4 to
40GB of transfers you would have to buy the largest plan, (well over $180
per month, oh ya, don't forget about the exchange rate.. That 199 pounds
is about 300 in US dollars) then multiple 20.48 X 25GB. So you would be
looking at about 711 pounds per month to lease the top of the line RaQ4
at 128k/40GB per month. Again, do not forget about the exchange rate (I
am just guessing, I have not looked up the current rate of exchange) this
puts that same 128k/40GB at roughly $1050.00/month in US dollars...
Now I admit you are getting rental of the RaQ as well, but it looks like
if you compare that $1050.00/month to $200.00 per month for just colo,
you could easily pay for your RaQ4 many times over... Oh ya, don't
forget about your $370+ setup fee, which we charge $200 for.
We do not charge for excess transfer. We simply give you a guaranteed
service level, and when your site looks as if it is exceeding this over a
given period of time, we simply suggest moving you to the next level.
This keeps our customers from having hidden surprises at the end of the
month.. An attack or hacker could easily run a BW bill out the roof if
you are not careful.
<No flames please..>
Now I am not bashing the folks at WebFusion I am sure their service is
top notch. I am just playing customer/devils advocate and looking at two
web sites, and drawing my own conclusions/comparisons.. If I really were
the customer I would be talking to sales people and clarifying some of
the points I made here.. My math could be off, I could have read
something wrong on their pricing page... etc..
take care.

Jeremy Anthony Kinsey
