Not true, Thomas. There is a domain called "guate.net" and they are my ISP.
They assigned me a range of IP addresses, and once I had my two nameservers
up, delegated control of "suma.guate.net" (a third-level domain) to me. I
then run, inside my IP space, everything you'd expect to run on a
second-level domain, to wit:

 * www.suma.guate.net
 * ftp.suma.guate.net
 * pop.suma.guate.net
 * ns1.suma.guate.net
 * ns2.suma.guate.net
 * smtp.suma.guate.net

and so on. All Brian needs to do is have one virtual site for DOMAIN.COM and
another virtual site for NAME.DOMAIN.COM. Once he has done that, with the
proper DNS records for both, he will be able to have completely different
sites for domain.com and name.domain.com. www.name.domain.com then will
simply be the www host for the third-level domain name.domain.com.
