Most likely your dialup provider does not have reverse DNS setup
correctly. FTP servers check the reverse to put it in the log. Next time
you get connected to your ISP, telnet to your box and do nslookup
your.ip.address.here if you get what looks like a FQDN, you are ok, but
if you get nothing back then that is why authentication is taking so long.
