Carrie,
I have no idea if the company in question has done anything wrong or
not.
However, if they have, and if what they've done is criminal, should they
be punished criminally for it? Or should they just be required to fix
it?
Think carefully before you answer Carrie.
Think about it this way:
Some burglars break into your house, your neighbor's house, and the
house down the street.
They get caught breaking into your house. No one knows who broke into
the house down the street, or your neighbor's house.
As punishment, they're required to return your valuables.
What's the lesson: That it's certainly okay to break into houses and
steal stuff, because if you get caught the only bad thing that happens
is you have to give back the stuff. If you don't get caught, you get to
keep the stuff.
They may even come back and break into your house again. The second
time they may not get caught.
Sorry, Carrie, as I see it, if you don't hold people criminally
responsible for criminal acts, then you just encourage criminal
behavior.
Jeff
