Here's the fix I just got from Cobalt.

Here you go:
To log into the box in single user mode do the following:
1)connect a serial null-modem cable to the first serial port of the raq and
your pc. Using 115200, 8, N, 1, hardware flow control
2)just after the first text appears in your screen hit the space bar
3) type: boot (? to get help)
4)type: set_params single
5)type: bfd
On the prompt you then get issue the following commands:
1) mount -o remount /
2) rm -f /dev/null
3) mknod -m 666 /dev/null o 1 3
4) reboot
And everything should be OK again.
