I am not sure about the login failure, though your Imap mail server might
have an issue. Qpopper, ftp, and any other active services that you
have set via the GUI at least on my system are checked every 15 minutes
by the Active Monitor. There are some that are checked every 15 minutes
with out even being on; IPX and Appleshare on the Mips. I used to get
this IPX and Apple Share logging like this :
> Nov 8 21:25:04 ns2 kernel: Swansea University Computer Society IPX
0.34
> NET 3.035
> Nov 8 21:25:04 ns2 kernel: IPX Portions Copyright (c) 1995 Caldera,
Inc.
> Nov 8 21:45:11 ns2 proftpd[22709]: ns2.***.com (ns2.***.com[%%%.^^^.&.###])
> - FTP session closed.
> Nov 8 21:54:40 ns2 kernel: Swansea University Computer Society IPX
0.34
> for NET3.035
> Nov 8 21:54:40 ns2 kernel: IPX Portions Copyright (c) 1995 Caldera,
Inc.
> Nov 8 21:45:11 ns2 in.proftpd[22709]: connect from %%%.^^^.&.###
> Nov 8 21:45:12 ns2 in.qpopper[22712]: connect from %%%.^^^.&.###
> Nov 8 21:45:13 ns2 in.imapd[22713]: connect from %%%.^^^.&.###
> Nov 8 21:45:12 ns2 in.imapd[22713]: imap service init from %%%.^^^.&.###
> Nov 8 21:45:12 ns2 in.imapd[22713]: Logout user=Active_monitor host=UNKNOWN
Now when following Cobalt's instructions in the archives to turn off
the Apple Talk and IPX by going into /ect/conf.modules and adding an
off suffix like this:
alias net-pf-4 ipx off
alias net-pf-5 appletalk off
My loggs are totally hosed; I now get this instead:

Anyone have any solutions for the logging errors above on a Qube2?
I wish I could help you more; Cobalt's camp is probably in Sun/OS training
sessions now; I would recommend going to other news groups to get additional
help if you can't find help here; there are 280 million people world-wide
on the Internet & growing; this is just 1 small speck of sand on the
beach.
Thx,
