Re: [cobalt-users] Old Perennial - registering nameservers

Hello folks - newbie alert, and apologies for bringing up another
chestnut...

I have plumped for a RaQ4 with Webfusion's dedicated servers package

I'm sorry to hear that.

I was then told to also register the nameservers thus:

ns.vikingnewmedia.com (with IP address 212.67.197.73)

ns2.vikingnewmedia.com (with IP address 212.67.197.74)

I did this using the Network Solutions online host change form three days
ago, yet get an "authentication error" when I use the 123-reg nameserver
transfer form.

Any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

WebFusion's support drones. ^_^

They really are a terrible company in my opinion, and don't know their arse from their elbow.

The reason it's not working is that 123-reg do not use NetSol (which is itself bloated and inefficient) for gTLD registrations.

I'm not familiar with 123-reg, but they may allow you to setup name servers from somewhere on their site. If not contact them and see if they will do it for you.

If all else fails pop along to http://www.opensrs.org and see if you set it up there. Again i'm not too familiar with OpenSRS as i use CORE for gTLD registration, but you should be able to create the required name server entries there.

I'm actually a bit surprised that WebFusion would give you that information as i seem to recall they advertised 123-reg on their site, so surely they must be aware of what registrar 123-reg use? On the other hand though ever experience with them that i have had indicates that the main qualifications for working their is an offensive nature and a high level of stupidity.
