Assuming you have access to telnet...
1. Telnet to the Qube and login as root.
2. Type "passwd admin", then when prompted give the old address, then
the new address twice (for verification). Now the admin user
has a new password.
3. Type "passwd" then when prompted give the old address, then the new
address twice (for verification). Now root has a new password.
You can either or both of 2 and 3. They're independent; the admin user
and root user are totally separate users. It's just that they have
similar privileges.
You will not ruin anything by having different passwords for admin and
root. Just keep in mind that anytime you change the admin password from
the GUI, you change the root password as well. Even if you change the
root password manually through the shell, later changing the admin
password through the GUI *will* make both root and admin have the new
password.
Assuming you *don't* have access to telnet...
1. Ensure that the paperclip you are using is small enough to fit in
the little hole provided for password reset. Press and hold
for more than two seconds (until you hear a tiny click).
2. Buy the Restore CD anyway. You may not need it today, but you will
need it someday. Computers are like that.
