Does anyone know how to do any type of aliasing (script, named virutal,
etc...) so that we could have a domain name in the address bar be something
like:
http://mycat.whatever.whatever Instead of:
http://www.mycat.com
You don't say what machine you're on, Kathleen and don't specify
whether you're using name-based hosting or IP based. That makes a
difference in many functions.
anyway, assuming name-based hosting: if I understand correctly, you
just want to have a site with the mycat hostname and have it respond
for the domain (in other words, if I type "http://whatever.whatever"
I'll go to "http://mycat.whatever.whatever"?)
If so, in the gui just create a site with that hostname "mycat" and
the domain name (like doing a www site except you use mycat instead
of www).
Set it up so that the site responds FOR the domain (there's a
checkbox in the Raq3 GUI to do that -- I know nothing about the Raq4
but it should have a similar capability.)
Set up a dns "A" record for that site.
And that's it. You don't need an aliasing process for this at all.
Well...other than the normal aliasing that's automatically included
in the creation of a url :-)
Oh, and for mail, make sure your ms record is domain to domain
mx whatever.whatever to whatever.whatever
And mycat's users will get their email just fine by just using the
domain as the email servers.
