RE: [cobalt-users] Database on a Qube Question

hi, your best chance is to install MySQL on your qube, I believe cobalt has
an .pkg fot this and to work with that databasr you can do 2 thinghs,
install PHPMyadmin if you got PHP installed on your qube or use the program
dbtools. Yu can find the links to these programs on www.mysql.com

Now if you want to integrate a database in a website you have to make use of
PHP wich is free and can be downloaded from the cobalt website, or you use
ASP, if not already installed on your Qube, wich you can by at
www.chilisoft.com (not so cheap)

Using PHP is difficult because you have to program everything yourself.
there are no programs on the market wich can help you make everything a
littlebit easier. as far I know offcource. If you decide to use ASP then
there is a lovely program available. It's called ultradev and you can find
it at www.macromedia.com once you followd there online tutorials, you can
very much with little knowledge.

I hope this helps,

best regards

Subject: [cobalt-users] Database on a Qube Question

this question is a little on the edge of off topic, but I'll try to be
concise.

I have a Qube 2 that I host a small number of virtual domains on.
I have a client who wants to keep some info she has in an Excel database
available on one of the sites.
I have very little (read Zilch) experience managing a database, much less
integrating it into a website, but am willing to learn
My question is two fold:
What is likely to be the best solution for us to use on the Qube, given my
inexperience, Excel DB structure, and Qube requirements / limitations?
Where should I look for a good source to learn more about these things, so's
I don't have to annoy the fine folks on this list with these kind of
questions?

Thanks for your time and attention
