/me is new to the list, so apologies for breaking any rules...
Lawrence Blanchard spake thusly...
: Has anyone had any experience with the UK2.NET £29 per month RAQ3 deal? It
: seems like a great price but what is the catch?
well, i've just signed up with uk2.net, and so far it seems okay, but then
i've only really "played" with the server, and not done any serious stuff
with it yet. i read an article (in linux-users magazine i think) about
dedicated server-hosts, and some "throttle" the bandwidth, so it's worth
checking if uk2.net do that or not. i've not seen any evidence that they
do, but like i say... i've only played so far.
the only downsides i've found so far are:
* you have to pay 3 years in advance. making it a one-off 1226.70. i was
kinda hoping for a direct-debit thing.
* there's no support (apart from re-boots). they charge for some services,
but i think reboots are free.
* i tried installing PHP into apache, and had to play around with some of
the pre-installed scripts (like apxs) to make things point to the right
directories. if like, i can provide details of everything i did to get it
sorted out.
finally, if you do want a server, they don't have many left... i think the
price is going up after the first 500 have gone, and i got server 456 a
couple weeks ago.
so. i don't know if this has been any help to you, but it's the things
that spring to mind.
peace,
'bod
