Hi Carrie,
The SSL certficate is keyed to the domain name / URL you encode the
certificate with. So if you want http://secure.yourdomain.com to be the
secure URL, then only that URL will show up as secure. If you attempt to
use a certificate on client site, the browser will pop up a warning that
says "Sorry, the site does not match the certificate". Which is not what
you want. You can get advanced wildcard domains certificates that make
anything.yourdomain.com secure from Verisign but they are waaaay more
expensive ($1500 I think). Then you could have client1.yourdomain.com,
client2.yourdomain.com and give them personal secure sites.
Right now we use the $125 Thawte Certificate on our domain and give our
users folders underneath that like:
https://secure.yourdomain.com/customer1
https://secure.yourdomain.com/~customer2
