When I do it I get;
[root@qube /etc]# newaliases
/etc/aliases: 87 aliases, longest 103 bytes, 1914 bytes total
/etc/aliases.majordomo: 78 aliases, longest 88 bytes, 3825 bytes total
[root@qube /etc]#
I didn't spell it out but before editing any config file I always make a
backup (e.g cp aliases aliases.bck). Then if something bad happens I can go
back one step.
I don't suppose you can try to run newaliases with your original aliases
file?
I'm suggesting that you may have made an error when you edited /etc/aliases.
Cheers, Malcolm
