[cobalt-users] Complete beginner struggling to get weekly log files

Hi folks,
I've had a quick look through the archive to find the answers
to my questions but find them too technical.
I hope you can help.
I find myself in the position of administering a Cobalt RAQ server,
wanting to set up the production of weekly log files for the website
hosted on the server, but knowing zilch about Apache or Unix or what
the large and confusing mass of folders and files do.
I'd buy a book on it, but I have to get the log files rotating right
away. It currently looks like they are being rotated every couple of
days or so and I'm therefore losing them - which is not good.
The site as been moved from a virtual server with a different host
where all this stuff was done for me. At the former host, log files
tended to exceed 100meg each week - and that was without referrer
information. I managed (through luck more than judgement) to set up a
cron job to zip up the access_log file every Saturday midnight. I
could then download the .gz file and run Webtrands on it to produce
the advertising stats reports the advertisers require.
I would like to do the same with the new server but don't have a clue
where to start. The Cobalt knowledge base and the manual do not
provide the information I need.
Any help you can provide - formatted in a 'go to this web page and
follow the instructions to the letter' or 'telnet in and type this'
would be very much appreciated.
Thanks very much in advance.
