Tracking would be my guess. If there is a complaint about someone
sending spam through AOL's network, they can verify it with their server
logs. A lot of spammers put @aol.com in the headers when the message is
not sent through AOL.
Also, they may do outbound filtering to try to catch spam on the way
out.
