In the hopes other newbies to the RaQ4 may find this in the archives,
Making hidden files visible on RaQ4
Doing the Cobalt-specified (and protpd users website) edit to the
/etc/proftpd.conf file (add line: LsDefaultOptions "-a") and then
rebooting does NOT instantly make the hidden files like ".htaccess" or
".log" or ".lock" visible in most common FTP applications. Just because
most apps can see the files on "everybody else's" server apprently means
the rest of the world is wrong, and the RaQ/Linux is right. (?)
FOR MAC (i.e., OS8.6, OS9)
Under Fetch on the Mac, the files still disappear after applying
permissions. CuteFTP 2.2b does see them now. BBEDit 5 and 6 can see the
"." files, and can delete them if need be, but can't set file
permissions. Interarchy 3.8 can't see them before or after the
proftpd.conf mod.
FOR WIN98 (etc.)
you can only make the files visible in CuteFTP 4x, or WS_FTP Pro, by
doing this:
For WSFTP, you can right click on the connection before logging on,
select "properties", then select the "startup" tab. On this screen you
shall
see a box that says "Remote file mask". In this box place "-al", then
log in.
For CuteFTP 4x (or higher, presumably), you need to go into the
edit/masks menu, then find the checkbox (unchecked by default) for "let
server sets masks" and then in the blank that becomes active, type "-al"
(without quotes, obviously).
FlashEXP ftp cannot see the files by default after the proftpd.conf mod,
contrary to other posts I've read (at least with the RaQ4).
Hopefully a better generic solution will be found, but right now that's
all I've got. Hope it helps somebody.
Christopher
