Just to be pedantic ;-) ...

Neither FTP nor shell access is actually prohibited from viewing .files,
they just need a qualifier to the 'ls' command to view them as they're
normally hidden. If you use command line FTP, using 'ls -a' does list them,
so you just need an FTP product that allows this, like the one I mentioned
in an earlier post.
