[cobalt-users] Authenticated SMTP Mail on a Raq3

I am trying to get authenticated SMTP working on a Raq3. The sendmail
version reported by the server is 8.9.3-C6.i386 - does this support
authenticated SMTP or do I need to upgrade to a newer version?

By authenticated SMTP I mean that users need to send a plain text username
and password to the SMTP server to send mail, not POP before SMTP.

Can anyone help? How do I set up authenticated SMTP once I have a version
that supports it?
