Are you sure that they use RedHat as their basis? My investigation yields
that they are using the RPM (which is Open Source) but developing their own
kernel and list of packages, which makes them not RedHat. The advantage
that you are talking about is the Open Source model of a standard OS -
Linux.
By the way, I recently asked several people at a trade show about Cobalt's
support of Open Source and was less than pleased at the responses. Not nice
to use from the community without returning something. If I am wrong on
their support of the community let me know.
