My local system run Windows 98.  I use the correct extensions and have
since Windows 95 came out.  It's true that Windows 95/98 use an extra
directory entry when you use 4- or 5-letter extensions, but that's not
too much space on a decent system, and you can keep your naming
conventions straight.
