Re: [cobalt-users] Switch or Hub w/ RaQ3 co-lo rack?

I bought a Farallon 12 port 10bt snmp managed rack mountable hub with internal fan for $40 about 6 months ago from smalldog.com. I'm using it just for back up incase our Bay Networks 100bt switch dies but I see no reason why it couldn't be used for what you're doing unless you NEED 100bt.

DLink's got an 8-port (unmanaged) 10/100 mbps switch that'll do the job;
it's already under us$100 here in Southern California. It's not in a
Rack-mount format, but I think (not sure, though) it fits into 1U of
space.

What I've heard about cheap hubs is that they have a tendency to overheat and stop working when used 24/7.

At that price/performance ratio, the switch rather than a hub is a
no-brainer.

I agree.
