i admitted nearly immediately after my initial post that i wrote junk, i
consulted the man page AFTER having posted. and it was late at night. no
good idea at all.
it was a good idea instead to write that i was not sure ... i did not
even note that the user just didn`t use the name of the tar archive in
the right place.
i did not use tar for time as i`m switching to afio (i do use it, but
it`s called by a script that i wrote months ago), but i thought to
remember the use... at least i told the user to consult the man
page... if he did it, he has noted that something has gone wrong.
my apologies for the incompetent post.
if i would have a "guru card", i would now give it away.
(as my first "linux tutor" said, one of the main differences between a
user and a power user is the number of man pages)
