I was hoping you had, since all I've ever done on the subject was quote
the "DNS and Bind" book, and evidently a lot of people disagree with
it. But alas, through this entire post, I didn't see you shedding any
light on wildcard DNS.

I presume you're referring to Steven Werby, since he was the poster who
explained how to do archive searching before posting the same question
yet above.

Perhaps you were referring to the poster (I can't find the post right
now) who complained that you can never tell an AOL-poster's real name.
I did find that post a bit off the mark, I agree, but nothing to scream
over.

Your point being that because he's a newbie and 19 years old, cmpollux
shouldn't have to learn how to search lists? or that he should have
somehow learned it by osmosis rather than one of us telling him?

cmbollox may certainly approach any of us and ask us for help, either
onlist or offlist. I regularly hire 18-year-olds and up and I teach
them how to do the kind of work I need done. I have nothing against
young people learning on the list; in fact I originally joined this list
not to sell my services but to learn how to operate the RaQ gui. But i
have no problem with posters having to follow certain rules either.

Does there have to be a posting guide? Maybe there does. There didn't
used to have to be posting guides <frown>.

Another oblique reference to me, I suppose, since I sell support AND
since I have on a few occasions offered to add things to the
knowledgebase.

In fact there is a way to get added to the list of people who can add to
the knowledgebase. And that is to be helpful enough on the list to be
noticed by the person who can authorize you.

It's also true that I've not added anything to the knowledgebase as of
yet. I was asked to post a qube q&a to the list, but I couldn't verify
it myself; I don't have a qube. And no one else wrote me to tell me
they followed it and it worked <frown>, so I couldn't add it <frown,
again>.

I'm now working on a few issues which should be on the knowledgebase.
Issues such as how to intelligently change the Rewrite rules in httpd.
Issues such as how to set up a user so s/he can receive mail, but not
ftp or have a website.

When I finish these two, I'll post them AND put them in the
knowledgebase. Hopefully this week.

So is it wrong for me to offer to increase all our knowledge as I have
time to do so?

If so, then you can just filter out my posts and exclude me from your
knowledgebase searches.

> He's a newbie that you can help with everything or just your favorite parts.

I'm always happy to help people who contact me onlist or offlist. The
fact is I've been so busy lately as to not have time to read my
"jblists" mail more often then twice a week or so; hopefully this is
beginning to change.

What's a MyList post? Nice try at another flame, I must admit.

I don't think so, but then again, we know whose side I'm on <wry grin>.

And your point is?

And if you picked on me I would apologize for anything I'd done to
offend you. I guess it's just a difference in what we like the world to
think of us.
