RE: HTML problems (was Re: [cobalt-users] UK2Net Raq3)

CCSE makes an HTML validator thats not too bad, you can probably find an
eval at cnet, or tucows. The important thing is to close the tags and
understand the differences between the two browsers(The two that matter at
any rate..)

Netscape is an inferior product, there is no doubt, but there a ton of
Netscape users out there so we have to accomodate. As an example, when you
specify a width in a tag, be it in a <TD> or <TH> or <Table>, etc.. IE sees
that as the width it needs to display. Netscape interprets it as the minimum
width, creating some interesting diferences in appearance. Thats why we use
things like transparent 'invisible' .gif images in adjacent cells and so
forth, to 'push' the content into a position acceptable to both browsers.

For the record, I haven't seen a noticeable improvement in this problem in
the current Netscape Beta's/ We can only hope that someday there is a real
HTML standard.
