Well, the Qube's are the right shape to make a nice doorstop. Or
Paperweight <wry grin>.
Yes, they can also be used as generic Linux boxes, though you'll run
into some issues of code availability for the MIPS processors.
And they DO NOT have a pc-compatible BIOS.
Questions specific to doing this with Cobalt Qubes that they were not
designed for should be directed to the cobalt-developers list. Cobalt
Qubes are discussed on the "Official Unofficial Cobalt Qube Users List"
at "http://majordomo.email-lists.com/qube-users/" (disclaimer: I own
email-lists.com and the list is hosted on one of my Cobalt RaQs).
