DOS attacks are designed to make you server inoperable by overloading it
with request. You can check you mail logs and if you see alot of request
from the same IP string it could be an attack.
As far as protection. Put up a good firewall. Most routers these days have
firewall protection built in or options from the manufacturer. You can also
purchase firewall software or firewall appliances.

hi all,
how can I know if I've been attacked?
is there a some sort of guideline I should follow to have an idea?
one of my servers just went bannanas, and we couldn't access it in anyway.
I had to reboot it.
And if I indeed was attacked what can I do to protect my michine from
further attaks?
TIA
